Foreign Office issues travel warnings for 16 countries including Egypt and Turkey

British travelers heading to destinations including Turkey, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are being advised to prepare for possible disruption following updated Foreign Office guidance.

The changes, issued on 27 October 2026, concern regional tensions and the possibility of conditions deteriorating quickly. The official travel advice pages for Turkey and Egypt both confirm updates on that date.

The wider update covers 16 destinations: Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

What could this mean for your journey?

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) warns that flights could be canceled and airspace could close with little notice. British nationals already in the region, as well as those planning to travel through it, should remain alert to changes.

Travelers are encouraged to follow local authorities' instructions, monitor airport and airspace announcements, and subscribe to FCDO email alerts. Review departure arrangements regularly, keep travel documents current, and avoid areas around military or security facilities.

Check the advice for your exact destination.

Read the regional alert alongside each destination’s specific restrictions. It does not apply the same warning level across all 16 destinations.

For example, Turkey’s guidance advises against travel within 10 kilometers of the Syrian border. Egypt has separate warnings covering particular areas, including North Sinai and sections of its border with Libya. Travelers should consult the full country guidance when assessing their itinerary.

If authorities instruct you to take shelter

The FCDO advises moving indoors or into a nearby safe building or designated shelter. An interior stairwell or a room with few windows and external walls may offer additional protection.

Debris from intercepted missiles or drones can be dangerous. Travelers should remain inside a secure structure and avoid approaching or handling fragments or unfamiliar objects.
